Crack IBPS exam

How to crack IBPS PO

  • Math: 40 mins- 30 attempts
  • Reasoning: 40 mins – 30 attempts
  • English: 25 mins – 30 attempts
  • Banking + Current: 10 mins – 30 attempts
  • Computer: 5 mins – 20 attempts

Total attempts: 140 questions. It is assumed a good target. 150 attempts are great.

If math section is easy give it extra 10 mins and attempts 40. Compensate by minimizing either English or reasoning whichever is difficult and vice versa.

Let’s assume a scenario, Math is easy and Reasoning is difficult.

  • Math: 50 mins- 40 attempts
  • Reasoning: 30 mins – 20 attempts
  • English: 25 mins – 30 attempts
  • Banking + Current: 10 mins – 30 attempts
  • Computer: 5 mins – 20 attempts

Reference:

  1. Data interpretation - R.S. Aggarwal, Kiran publication
  2. Math - Kiran publication,
  3. Reasoning - R.S. Aggarwal, CAT prep book
  4. English - Kiran Publication, Pdf Files
  5. Computers - Arihant publication, Previous year questions

Here’s a study plan:

Section 1: DI+QA

Data Interpretation: 5*5 Questions; 25 Marks; 20 minutes.

  1. Pie chart
  2. Bar graph
  3. Line graph
  4. Data table
  5. Verbal Data

Do's and dont's:

  • One has to solve at least 50*5 questions of each type. One question has 5 sub questions.
  • Max, 5-6 mins for a PO DI question. 3-4 mins for a clerk DI question.
  • Be quick and accurate in average, percentage, summation and multiplication.
  • Out of 5 DI question, 1 or 2 are difficult. Ignore them or solve in the end. Difficult only means more complex calculation.

Quantitative Aptitude: 25 marks; 20 minutes.

  1. Series
  2. Data sufficiency
  3. Profit & Loss
  4. Speed & Distance
  5. Time & Work
  6. Average
  7. Ratio
  8. Partnership
  9. Interest & Discount
  10. Probability
  11. Permutation & Combination
  12. Miscellaneous

Do’s and Dont’s

  • Series section first. They have 5 marks. 150 questions of previous year papers of SBI/IBPS PO will be sufficient. Max 5 minutes. 1 question is always tricky.
  • Data sufficiency comprises 5 or 3 or 2 marks. Second priority.
  • Out of last 15 questions you have to solve only 10. Everything is not compulsory. Your strong sections third priority.
  • Read every chapter at least once.
  • Don’t solve last 15 questions first. Leave them whenever they appear on the screen and solve in the end.

Section 2: VR + NVR + Puzzles

Non Verbal reasoning: 15 marks; 10 mins.

  1. Syllogism – 3-4 mins
  2. Inequalities – 3-4 mins
  3. Alpha Numeric Series
  4. Data sufficiency
  5. Coding
  6. Blood relations
  7. Directions

Do’s and Dont’s

  • Except Syllogism and inequality, there are no certain marking for this section. So don’t expect one.
  • This section is mostly easy. Free marks. Practice them as much as you can. Do them first, everything else second.

Puzzles: 5 questions; 25 marks; 25 minutes

  1. Circular Tables (inside, outside, inside + outside)
  2. Linear Tables (north, south, north + south)
  3. Tabulation
  4. Floor Arrangements

Do’s and Dont’s

  • If it takes more than 7 mins to solve a puzzle, don’t do it. This section is very risky. Either become an expert in this section or don’t do it at all.
  • I haven’t found any very good book of this particular section, not even on quora. Befriend with Google for detailed knowledge of this section.

Verbal Reasoning: 10 Marks; 5 mins.

  1. Statement & Assumption
  2. Statement & Argument
  3. Cause and Effect
  4. Course of Action
  5. Decision Making

Do’s and Dont’s

  • If you haven’t practiced this section deeply, there are few chances that you are going to correct them all.
  • Another free marks and time saving section.

Section 3: English = RC + Grammar + PJ + cloze test

  1. Reading Comprehension: 12 + 8 questions; 20 Marks; 15 Mins
  2. Grammar: 15 Marks; 5 Mins
  • Errors
  • Sentence Completion
  • Fill in the Blanks
  1. Para Jumble: 5 Marks; 5 Minutes.
  2. Cloze Test: 10 marks; 5 mins.

Do’s and Dont’s

  • Reading compression must not take 15 mins. If you take 20 mins better make them count (Score 20 out of 20).
  • Smart thing is to read one easy comprehension and just mark antonyms and synonyms of the difficult one. Difficult paragraph are those have economic jargons.
  • Para Jumble is a complex thing. If you are having trouble with this section, don’t worry. 1st and last sentence are always easy. Do them and move on. It will hardly take two mins.

Section 4: Banking Awareness + Current Affairs

  1. Banking Awareness: I have read for only 4 months. And from no specific source. To clear concepts of Banking Internet, Mrunal class notes, Mahendra Class notes, etcetra.
  2. Current affairs: JagranJosh,Daily BankersAdda, Bankersadda Capsule, Quizapp and that’s it. Nothing else.

Do’s and Dont’s

  • Last month should be dedicated to current affairs only.
  • Better clear the concepts of banking once for all. You ultimately have to clear them today or tomorrow. Don’t think that they have only 20 marks. They are free marks. Be greedy.

Section 5: Computers

Do’s and don’t’s

  • Most easy section.
  • Prepare once and prepare deep.
  • Previous year questions are necessary
